Mission Details
The primary goal of the Apollo 10 mission was to orbit the moon with the lunar module connected to the command module and prepare for the Apollo 11 mission. This would make sure that nothing in the equipment malfunctioned and ensure that NASA was ready for a lunar landing. The lunar module was launched from the command module, testing its maneuverability and docking functions. The lunar module performed a low altitude pass over the lunar surface at an altitude of 14 km, testing the communications and thrusters. The lunar module successfully docked with the command module later and reentry occured without mishap, proving that a lunar landing was possible.
