The Indian Silverbill

Lonchura Malabarica - Indian Silverbill

Family - Estrildidae

Order - Passeriformes

Length - 10 to 12 cm.

Recognition - Brown body with darker brown tail and white underparts. The beak is gray and the eyes are dark brown.

Habitat - Grassland

Behavior - Omnivore

Residency - India and South Asia

Of Special Note - The female lays 8 to 12 eggs, which are incubated for about two weeks. The hatchlings leave the nest after an additional three weeks. The species is known for its ability to get along with other birds, of its own and other species.
