The African Silverbill

Lonchura Cantans - African Silverbill

Family - Estrildidae

Order - Passeriformes

Length - 10 to 12 cm.

Recognition - Brown body with darker brown tail and white chest and underparts. The beak is gray and the eyes are dark brown.

Habitat - Savannah

Behavior - Omnivore

Residency - Central Eastern Africa

Of Special Note - The female lays 3 to 4 eggs, which are incubated for about two weeks. The hatchlings leave the nest after an additional three weeks. The species is very easy to breed in captivity and can produce many offspring in a short period of time.
